Community Garden

We are currently in the planning stages of developing a community garden at The Space.  There will be space for a gardening group to grow fruit and vegetables, to be used within the centre and the local community.  The garden will also be used by the groups which are using the building.  For example, as a space so children can explore the outdoors, or to teach children about where their food is coming from.

Benefits of community gardens:

  • Promotes wellbeing
  • Contribute to food security
  • Grow sustainable food
  • Builds community cohesion
  • Gives educational opportunities
  • Provides a sense of achievement
  • Gardening can be a form of exercise
  • Provides an opportunity to meet new people and form friendships
  • Teaches children about responsibility
  • Cultivates a love of nature
  • Can grow new foods which are not normally found in supermarkets
  • An exciting way for children to try new, healthy food

We are looking for people who are interested in getting involved in this community garden.  Whether you love gardening and have lots of gardening, or if you have never gardened before, we would love for you to get involved!  Please get in touch if you would like to get involved or would be interested in finding out more.
